Countryside Connections book launch

A book launch for Countryside Connections – Older people, community and place in rural Britain.

Book launch details

Friday 23 May 2014 at 1.00pm, followed by an afternoon cream tea reception at Crosspoint, Roland Levinsky Building, Plymouth University.

About the book

Older people in the countryside are vastly under-researched compared to those in urban areas. This innovative volume offers a unique interdisciplinary perspective on the rural ageing experience in the UK, focusing on older people as assets in rural civic society, and demonstrating how the use of diverse methods from across disciplines aimed to promote public engagement with this research.

The authors examine the ways in which rural elders are connected to community and place, and the contributions they make to family and neighbours, and the organisations and groups to which they belong.

Please join us for the formal launch of the book and discussion of outcomes from the research led by Professor Catherine Hennessy (Plymouth University) with recognition of the co-editors, and other academic and community partners who contributed towards this interdisciplinary £1M research project including UWE, and the Universities of Swansea, Bournemouth and Cardiff, Age UK and the Alzheimer’s Society.
